Georgia Women In Agriculture are recipients of the USDA-NIFA Beginner Farmer Development Program grant. Since 2021 they have enabled community members to begin farming in their local communities. Check out some of the program's PRODIGIES below.
Diana Wilson
Atlanta, Georgia
I am Diana Wilson, an urban farmer, herbalist, and owner of Blue Moon Rising Urban Farm LLC. I provide culinary and medicinal herbs to customers who understand the value of fresh organically farm raised herbs. It is my passion to help alleviate and prevent unnecessary diseases by supplying enough city dwellers and beyond with the most cost effective specialty products to offset health challenges. The time is now to take control of our health! Adding these special culinary and medicinal herbs and spices to your daily dietary regimen will help achieve optimum health and longevity.
Farmer Millz
Uvalda, Georgia
I am Millie Coleman, a 5th generation farmer, I currently own and operate Farmer Millz Farm in Uvalda, Georgia. As a New Beginning Farmer I am commissioned to preserve, maintain and grow newly formed and struggling farm operations to keep up with new ideas and discoveries that will impact the generational wealth of family farms. With new technologies being introduced in agriculture, the demand for agritech creators and trainers has increased. I have been fortunate to gain advanced technical and traditional mechanical skills that will help keep farms evolving for next level production of healthy foods. The future of food is in our hands, join me as I help to bring safe, healthy natural produce to our communities by supporting my design of a hydroponic system using recycled and low cost materials.
Connie Baker
Augusta, Georgia
My name is Connie Baker, owner and operator of Vegetable Plate Farmacy, a fruit and vegetable farm located in Augusta Georgia. I am teaching the community how important it is to grow their own locally grown food but especially the next generation who will have the task of getting food to those that need it. As a certified welder, I know the impact that a trade can have on youth of today. It is my passion to see that our youth gain entrepreneurial skills where jobs are abundant in the Agriculture industry. We are on the verge of a food crisis and must prepare with sustainable innovative techniques. Help me as I provide healthy food and training for the next generation to WIN this fight.
Michael Sample
Marietta, Georgia
My name is Michael Sample, a beginner farmer and owner of Healthy Hills Farm in Austell Georgia. I am learning how to practice sustainable ways of growing healthy food free of pesticides for those who have a desire to provide for themselves and their families. I want to help do my part in helping to combat the predictable food shortage. I have been fortunate to receive vital training from NWIAA BFRDP that has led to the design of a rainwater system. Water conservation plays a very important role in planting crops. Whether you have a pot, a plot, or a piece of land, this is the starting point to become a sustainable solution to food insecurity. Let’s grow some food!
Jean Young
Athens, Georgia
I am Jean Young, owner and operator of Freedom City Gardens, an urban micro-farm in Athens Georgia. As a farmer, my goal is to impact and interrupt food insecurity and food apartheid by bringing Black and Indigenous People of Color (BIPOC) in alignment with the food they eat. My experience as a published author and educator in the arts has given me the passion to speak to the plight of food insecurity in our communities. I am committed to make this change by addressing the root causes and providing local food resources along with education in our neighborhoods. We are too often left out of meaningful conversations around food and food injustice. Join me in the fight to bring healthy food and end food disparities in our communities.

I am Monica B, an urban farmer and owner of Keeyah Gardens LLC located in Stone Mountain. I help people who have made a decision to make healthier choices in their diet. My passion is to show how healthy garden food is medicine that coincides with improved health and healing producing a well balanced prolonged lifestyle. I have been fortunate with my extensive NWIAA training to serve and educate customers that are willing to see their health journey turn around. I am Aqeela Reyad, an Advocate for Health & Holistic Wellness and owner of Food for Life Farms. Choosing a lifestyle of wellness means that we are in tune with the overall health of the community, as we value what is placed in the body, we also want to produce value added products from the farm. Food for Life Farms will offer the most nutrient-based holistic products, along with education around agriculture, sustainable living, survival skills and facilitate Arts and cultural events for all. As a Program Director for the National Women In Agriculture Association in Georgia, I am dedicated to making sure that women and beginning farmers in the agricultural industry have the resources and support they need to succeed. I firmly believe that with the right education and support, women can and will make a difference in the agriculture sector.
I am committed to providing outreach resources such as workshops, seminars, and trainings to help beginning farmers learn the skills necessary to excel in this field. I am proud to be part of a movement that is helping to empower beginning farmers in agriculture and look forward to continuing to serve our members.
